Book Content Disclaimer

I have not read all of the books on this blog nor checked their content against LDS standards. If you find that one of these titles has extreme content (giving it an R rating), please leave a warning in the comments.

Your Book on This Blog

Updated December 2011.

This LDS Fiction blog site was created for use by readers who enjoy supporting and reading fiction by LDS authors.

Are you an LDS author of fiction?

Has your book been published this year?

Then you qualify for a FREE post on this site.

Guidelines for listing your book on this site:
  • ANY published FICTION book written or co-written by an LDS author may have a post on this blog.

    — This includes short story collections, novellas, seasonal story booklets, chapter books, graphic novels and children's picture books.

—It does not include non-fiction, poetry, biographies or autobiographies.

—Memoirs are iffy. If written in the style of a novel and the story takes some creative license, then okay. If it's more of an autobiography, then no.

  • Books are posted by year, beginning with novels released after January 1, 2008. Depending on your release date, your book's post may be backdated.

  • Books must be written by a member(s) of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, but do not have to contain LDS content or characters. Books with non-LDS co-authors are acceptable.

  • Books may be published by either a traditional LDS publisher, a national (non-LDS) publisher, or self-published.

  • Books must be available for sale online, as a printed book or as a professionally created e-books.*

  • Reprints or re-released novels are not eligible, unless significant revisions have been made. (If this is the case, please let me know when requesting a post.)

  • Book will post on or near their release date.

  • If your book was released after January 1, 2008 and it's not on this site, please let me know.
*Professionally created ebook = a book formatted for e-book readers, such as the iPad, Kindle, Nook, Sony, Kobo, etc. A pdf download is not adequate.

Other Things to Know:

Updating Posts: I am happy to update your posts with new links, but it's your responsibility to get that information to me.

Self-Policing: This is a self-policing site. I don' t have time to make sure everyone who requests to be added to this list is actually eligible. It's up to you to check the eligibility requirements to make sure you meet them. If a book appears on this list that is not eligible, someone please let me know.

Offensive Material: Not all of the books posted here are fully in line with LDS standards of conduct or morality. When I become aware of books that may have offensive material (swearing, violence, immorality), I will post a warning on that book's post page. If I discover that a book promotes or celebrates behavior that is outside LDS standards, I will remove them from this blog.

Click here for a list of LDS authors whose books have been removed from this blog due to offensive material.

Whitney Affiliation: There is no direct affiliation between the LDS Fiction blog and the Whitney Awards/Committee.

A post on LDS Fiction does NOT mean your book has been nominated for a Whitney Award.

Click HERE for more information on my connection with the Whitneys.

If you have questions, please send me an e-mail.

Voting, Commenting, Assigning Stars

This probably does not need to be said, but just in case...

Please remember that words have power. Your comments may persuade or dissuade someone who is considering purchasing and/or reading a particular book.

Be honest, but respectful.

Comments that are solely promotional or that are disrespectful will be deleted.

Do not rate a book higher or lower than you feel it really deserves.

As a reader of this blog, do not allow the comments of a few to sway your decision on a book. If a book looks interesting, give it a chance.

Wondering how many stars to give a book? Feel free to use the following criteria:

  • 1 STAR
Did not like the book enough to finish it OR was extremely disappointed in it. Would not recommend it to others.

  • 2 STARS
While it was not a total waste, overall, you did not like this book and would not recommend it to others unless you were feeling unusually kind.

  • 3 STARS
Average book. Liked some things, disliked other things OR did not like this book due to personal tastes, but others might like it. Would recommend it with a disclaimer.

  • 4 STARS
Liked this book. Would recommend it to others.

  • 5 STARS
Loved this book. It is one of your favorites and you'll probably read it again. Would definitely recommend it to others.

LDS Fiction & the Whitney Awards

I love the Whitney Awards!

I absolutely support their endeavors to promote and recognize good fiction created by LDS authors. I occasionally give them money to help with their efforts and I always attend the Whitney Gala.

I am also proud to be one of the many, many members of the Whitney Voting Academy, made up of "LDStorymakers, authors, retailers, bloggers, critics, publishers, and other individuals and organizations involved and invested in the LDS writing community."

And that is the full extent of the affiliation between LDS Fiction and the Whitney Awards.

LDS Fiction is my personal contribution to the same effort the Whitneys espouse—to shine a light on fiction by LDS authors. I do my best to track down new releases and post them to this site so that interested readers can easily find titles by LDS authors. (Click here to find out how to get your book posted on this site. It's free.)

The posts on LDS Fiction encompass all types and genres of fiction by LDS authors, including some categories for which the Whitneys do not currently have an award—such as short story collections, novellas, seasonal story booklets, chapter books, graphic novels and children's picture books.

The Whitneys focus on novels of at least 50,000 words in length. They also have rules for nominating and eligibility. You can read those rules on their site.

The important things to remember here at LDS Fiction are:
  • Not all of the books posted on LDS Fiction are Whitney eligible.

  • It's up to you to figure out if a book you want to nominate matches the Whitney criteria.

  • A posting on LDS Fiction does NOT mean the book has been nominated for a Whitney award,

  • Nor does it mean that I endorse, like or have even read the book myself.

The authors listed below are LDS (as far as I can tell). Their books were previously posted on this site. However, due to multiple readers contacting me about objectionable content that promotes or celebrates behaviors that are far outside of LDS standards, their books have been removed.

If you feel these authors have been put on this list unfairly, please contact me and make a case for it on a title by title basis.
