LDS Fiction & the Whitney Awards

I love the Whitney Awards!

I absolutely support their endeavors to promote and recognize good fiction created by LDS authors. I occasionally give them money to help with their efforts and I always attend the Whitney Gala.

I am also proud to be one of the many, many members of the Whitney Voting Academy, made up of "LDStorymakers, authors, retailers, bloggers, critics, publishers, and other individuals and organizations involved and invested in the LDS writing community."

And that is the full extent of the affiliation between LDS Fiction and the Whitney Awards.

LDS Fiction is my personal contribution to the same effort the Whitneys espouse—to shine a light on fiction by LDS authors. I do my best to track down new releases and post them to this site so that interested readers can easily find titles by LDS authors. (Click here to find out how to get your book posted on this site. It's free.)

The posts on LDS Fiction encompass all types and genres of fiction by LDS authors, including some categories for which the Whitneys do not currently have an award—such as short story collections, novellas, seasonal story booklets, chapter books, graphic novels and children's picture books.

The Whitneys focus on novels of at least 50,000 words in length. They also have rules for nominating and eligibility. You can read those rules on their site.

The important things to remember here at LDS Fiction are:
  • Not all of the books posted on LDS Fiction are Whitney eligible.

  • It's up to you to figure out if a book you want to nominate matches the Whitney criteria.

  • A posting on LDS Fiction does NOT mean the book has been nominated for a Whitney award,

  • Nor does it mean that I endorse, like or have even read the book myself.
